Competition Infrastructure Proves Its Worth

On September 19, 2009, the Swiss Cup final was held, as is tradition, at the MFV Pfäffikon. The helicopter training field, newly built that spring, thus made its competitive debut. The 4 newcomers and 10 promotion-class pilots were very pleased with the excellent facilities. After coffee and croissants, Regional Chairman Emil Giezendanner and Competition Director Walter Heller welcomed the pilots and judges. Local hero Mario Rupper performed the demonstration flight. Afterward, the newcomer pilots began their first of three rounds. The 14 pilots were always ready for their scoring flight, allowing the competition to proceed extremely efficiently.

The surprise of the day arrived shortly before noon

Ennio Graber joined us and was honored as “Pilot of the Year 2009” for his outstanding third-place finish at the 2009 F3C World Championship in the U.S. With two demonstration flights, he showed us what maneuvers look like at the world’s highest level. It’s amazing what’s possible with a model helicopter in the hands of a master pilot. Once back down to earth, the promotional pilots grabbed the controls again and took off for their second round.

Graduation

After the accounting office had sorted the numbers and the printer had printed out the certificates and rankings, it was time to announce the results.

The tension rose once again until competition director Walter Heller announced the rankings. The victory in the Promotion category went to Hugo Markes, while Georg Emmanouelidis won the Newcomers category, thereby also claiming the cup.

It was another successful event with plenty of excitement and fun for all the pilots. Many thanks to all the pilots, judges, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make the Swiss Cup a success again in 2009. For more information, visit www.F3C.ch
