TRY-OUT DAY AT MFV WETTINGEN

On June 21, 2026, the first open house for all age groups took place at the MFV Wettingen airfield in Ruckfeld.

The weather was very kind to the organizers. It was sunny and hot with very little wind—ideal flying weather.

The organization was flawless. Several tents were set up, providing welcome shade. Thanks to the new solar power system, 230 V power was also available to run a large refrigerator for the meat and beverages. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the grilled food and cold drinks.

In the run-up to the event, the organizing committee had distributed a flyer in the area around the airfield. This resulted in about 20 registrations. On the open house day, about 35 interested people showed up, including some parents with their children. The SMV provided nice hand-launched gliders for the younger kids, which were used extensively.

Before each flight, the young pilots were shown and given a detailed explanation of how the model’s flight controls worked. This helped them better visualize how the model would react when they made a specific control movement.

Afterward, everyone got to work with intense concentration. Fortunately, the young participants handled the model surprisingly well. Later, everyone was able to proudly share stories about their first flying experiences.

One girl even gave it a try and received enthusiastic support from her dad. It was a truly lovely sight.

And so, after guided flying sessions and interesting conversations, a successful introductory day came to an end, and the boys and girls took home wonderful memories. Here’s hoping that the passion for flying has caught on with one or two of them.

The MFV Wettingen will certainly consider repeating this wonderful and valuable event.

We’d like to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thank you to the organizing committee and all the volunteers for this wonderful and successful open house.
