A truly joyful anniversary... 40 years of Modell Flugsport
Not only those with an interest in aviation, but also everyone else in attendance enjoyed the uniquely beautiful atmosphere in the Dübendorf Aviation Museum’s hall—perfect for the anniversary—featuring rare aircraft such as the Hunter and the Mirage.
The celebration on December 16, 2011, will undoubtedly go down in the history of model aviation. The interest in “being part of” the anniversary was clearly evident. During the last two days of preparation, the seating capacity in the hall had to be increased by a large number no fewer than three times—much to the delight of the organizing team. Who would have thought that such a large number of supporters of the magazine *modell flugsport* (over 160 people)
would gather in the hall. Friends traveled from all over—from Finland, French-speaking Switzerland, Bern, the Principality of Liechtenstein, and other parts of Switzerland.
Everyone wanted to be there for the 40th anniversary of *Modellflugsport*, to relive the history of the official publication of the Swiss Model Flying Association (SMV)—how it all began — its development over the past years — its current status, and, above all, the continuation of the Swiss magazine: “Made by model aviators for model aviators,” seen and heard from a reliable source. Prominent figures from many sectors were in attendance: SMV President Peter Germann, mo-
Dr. Peter Sutter, as well as Foundation Board members Heinz Etter (Vice President), Wolfgang Matt (CFO), Matthias Bosshard (Secretary), and Felix Andres (At-Large Member). Prof. Dr. Roland Müller, Sandy Pimenoff, longtime president and honorary member of CIAM, Werner Köl- liker—who doesn’t know “Kö”?
Marco Schnyder, responsible for model aviation at the AeCS and director of the youth camp in the Engadin. Felix Kiser, Central Secretary of the Aero Club of Switzerland. Yves Burkhardt, Vice President and Treasurer of the AeCS, as well as many other loyal supporters and “collaborators” in the form of translators, report writers, and

Photographers—all loyal fans! Emil Giezendanner skillfully and engagingly presented his story from the very beginning up to Issue No. 6 from December 2011.
Memories come flooding back—what a journey! With great enthusiasm, visitors watched many moments from the past 40 years unfold before their eyes. More than a few
recognized themselves in one of the slides, much to their delight. Memories of days gone by came flooding back. Episodes from all corners of the world featuring world and European champions across a wide range of disciplines. All memories of lasting value. High praise from all sides went to the creator, the “hard worker” Emil, for his work; with great dedication, he has managed—
today, in collaboration with the Modell Flugsport Foundation, to successfully keep a magazine for model aviators, by model aviators, on the market for over 40 years. That deserves great recognition, dear Emil!
... and the Harlem Ramblers We had a great time; the Dixieland band played a big part in creating a relaxed atmosphere during the breaks and at the end of the official anniversary event
. Everyone danced along, clapped, and enjoyed the swing, blues, and evergreens. A great atmosphere in a stylish setting. The cocktail buffet served at the end of the event—the 40th anniversary celebration of MFS—featuring only the finest appetizers, really got the guests in high spirits once again. Memories were shared, visits were planned, people got to know one another, everyone was delighted, and everyone had nothing but positive things to say about the event. A successful start from beginning to end. Emil, you have been honored and recognized in every way, and you truly deserve it. We thank you for your dedication over the past years and are already looking forward to the next anniversary—someday, somewhere.
With best wishes
for the future,
