We need role models

Dear Reader,

The F-35 is currently back in the spotlight for political reasons, so the presentation of such an F-35 in the form of an extraordinary jet model, built by Noldi Meier, is very much in keeping with the times.

What Noldi Meier accomplishes at his advanced age deserves the utmost respect; through his dedication, he demonstrates what is possible when one is motivated, possesses the necessary talent, and has the perseverance to see such a project through to completion.

Noldi needs an original as a model for his own creation, just as he serves as a role model for us.

We model airplane pilots are role models for our youth; by demonstrating our hobby to interested young people, we motivate them to embark on the adventure of model flying. This requires motivated individuals in every club who possess the necessary perseverance and patience—just as Noldi does with his F-35.

There are good examples—such as that of Adrian Amrein—of how we can guide a young person from beginner to independent pilot.

Perhaps another approach would be for every model flying club to create a Youth or Junior Division on its board.

Some clubs already have this, but many groups still lack such a department.

Let’s build the future of our model flying clubs, motivate young people to embrace the adventure of model flying, and take them on this educational and exciting journey.

We’re looking for good ideas.
