"Where can I get stringing paper?"

“Where can I buy drive rubber?”

“Where do you buy the tension varnish?”

These are examples of questions asked at rubber-powered model meetings. So I looked around online at model shops in German-speaking Switzerland and noted down what’s available where, based on the following criteria.

The criteria: balsa wood, metals (wire, tubes), covering paper, covering varnish, rubber bands for propulsion, propellers, etc., and model kits.

In the end, I found seven specialty stores where you can find accessories for rubber-powered model aircraft. I’ve compiled them into the table below.

I am aware that this list is not exhaustive

and that there is more available in these specialty stores—it just wasn’t listed in their online shops. This includes, for example, winders for winding rubber bands or lubricants.

I found kits offered by the following manufacturers: Aeronaut, Dumas, Guillows, KeilKraft, and Siva.

I am not aware of what the situation is like in Italian- and French-

regions is not known to me.

Balsa wood is also available at larger home improvement stores, though you’ll need to look closely to ensure the wood meets the quality requirements for construction.
