Indoor Aerobatics – Where Are We Headed?

Nowhere in the world of RC model aviation are you closer to the action than in indoor aerobatics. It’s often so quiet in the hall that you can even hear the servos. The F3P competitors are almost like one big family. The sport brings people together, and international friendships develop.

Unfortunately, the days when a competitive model could be built with creativity rather than a large financial investment are over. Although the extremely lightweight models made of CFRP and Mylar film are very durable, they are also expensive, labor-intensive to build, and flying them alongside other indoor models is out of the question—assuming you even have regular access to a gym for the necessary training.

For those new to F3P, there are suitable models made of EPP, but even in the entry-level F3P-AA class, CFRP models with coaxial propulsion have already become firmly established—often secondhand models from F3P-A pilots. Maybe it’s better to stick to flying just F3P-AF? While the selection of models is significantly larger here, flying at the top level usually requires quite a few modifications. Special effects—such as lighting, variable-pitch propellers, streamers, confetti drops, etc.—earn important bonus points. By the time you’ve found and edited the right music for the planned flight program and ensured all effects work as intended… it really isn’t that much easier either. ■

It remains exciting… and I’m curious to see where this journey takes us!
