Swissakro Connection Winter Get-Together at Birrfeld

4

Every December, the members of the RC Glider Aerobatics Club meet at the clubhouse in Birrfeld to review the past season and discuss goals and strategies for the coming year.

The two organizers, René Koblet and Andy Minnig, extended an invitation, and little by little
the training hall filled with pilots, officials, and interested attendees. They even had to bring in extra seating. Before the course leaders addressed the actual agenda items, a moment of silence was observed in memory of a recently deceased colleague who had been active in our community for many years. After the moment of silence, the meeting moved on to the business
at hand. The new aerobatics programs were presented and discussed in detail. The future strategy for the judging system was also an important topic. Subsequently, the dates for the competitions and training sessions were set. Details on the other agenda items, such as the Styrocup, Show Team, etc., can be found on the website.

For many years, Paul Rudolf served as head judge, training the judges and accompanying and supporting them at countless competitions. He has now stepped down from this position, and special thanks were expressed to him at the event for his valuable work. Paul Rudolf was honored with a gift and a round of applause for his many years of dedication.

The stunning photos and videos from last season, which were shown during the presentation, brought back many fond memories and stirred up strong emotions among those in attendance, and already got everyone excited for the upcoming season.

After a wealth of information and lively discussions, the event concluded on a positive note. Some took the opportunity to enjoy dinner together and catch up with friends, while others set off on the snow-covered journey home, but everyone is already looking forward to the next season so we can once again enjoy our wonderful hobby together.

The Rookie Program can be flown with any cross-rudder-controlled motor glider.

Training sessions for all interested sail-acro pilots: see the schedule at www.swissakro.ch

To all interested model aircraft pilots

You don’t need a large, expensive acrobatic glider to take part in a training session or competition. All glider models—with or without a motor—that can perform simple aerobatic maneuvers such as rolls and loops are permitted. The Rookie Program was created specifically for beginners. We at Swissakro Connection welcome every newcomer and returning participant.

Introductory Classes

In addition, there will be two open house days again during the 2024 season. Active aerobatic pilots will help you set up your gliders, fly aerobatic maneuvers, and provide you with valuable and useful tips and information.
