Sensational First Crossing of the English Channel
On July 17, 1974, the BELL 212 TWIN JET became the first model helicopter to fly across the English Channel. From an escort helicopter, Dieter Ziegler piloted this extraordinary record-breaking flight using a GRUNDIG VARIOPROP 12 S.
The crossing required considerable skill on the part of the pilot, but also placed particularly high demands on the technical precision of the model, its mechanics, and the reliability of the remote control.
In addition to this outstanding achievement, Dieter Ziegler and Heinz Pällmann set three world records in the BELL 212 TWIN JET:
World record for endurance flight: 1 h 45 min
World record for distance flight: 57.5 km
World altitude record: 1,058 m
You can find a detailed description of the BELL 212 TWIN JET in the GRAUPNER Main Catalog 27 FS, along with the New Products Brochure N 74.
