Challenge Cup 2017

This time, the weather gods were especially kind to us—no fog in the morning and good weather conditions throughout the day allowed us, with 17 participants, to fly three rounds. In both categories, the routines from previous years were performed. I think that most competition pilots primarily fly the official routines from national and international competitions and can then prove themselves with the Classic and Tucson routines—which are new or less familiar to them. The participants’ strong performances, the smooth running of the competition, and—last but not least—the friendly atmosphere among everyone involved ultimately create the wonderful

atmosphere of this event.

Over the course of six hours, four competent national judges evaluated more than 50 flights. Their dedication deserves special recognition.

Primen Jund won the Classic category with a 2.5-point lead over second-place finisher Marc Rubin; third place went to Sandro Veronelli, followed by Alois Schürmann and seven other pilots.

In the Tucson category, Patrick Drack demonstrated that a three-meter model can be flown just as precisely as an F3A model. With three scores of 1,000 points, he won this category convincingly, followed by Matthias Engeler, who also flew a three-me-

who placed second with his model. Third place went to Phillip Schürmann, followed by Martin Lüthi and two other pilots.

For 21 years, this event has marked the end of the season for the aerobatics community and has become a fixture in the Breitenbach Model Flying Club’s program of activities.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved—pilots, judges, the jury, the scoring team, volunteers, and our host. Thanks to the dedication of all of us, this friendly flying event is a great success. We’re already looking forward to next year.
