On October 3, 2009, the Breitenbach Model Aircraft Club hosted the Challenge Cup for the fourteenth time. Nineteen pilots from various regions gathered for this competition to mark the end of the season.

Judging was conducted by five teams of judges from Regions 3, 5, and 7. In beautiful fall weather—for once without fog—two flights were held in the F3A and F3AX categories, with the lower-scoring flight being discarded from the final tally.

Marc Rubin won the F3A category ahead of Jean Claude Spillmann and Alois Schuermann. The narrow point margin demonstrates just how fiercely contested the competition was. The pilot in last place trailed the winner by only 117 per mille! In the F3AX category, Dani Koch won ahead of Hugo Peyer and Noldi Peyer. A high level of competition was evident in this category as well. The total point difference between first and eighth place was 112 per mille.

Four pilots in the F3AX category flew models with electric motors. In the F3A category, there were no combustion-engine models at the start. All nine pilots in this category flew with electric motors. This year’s Challenge Cup once again featured the DMFV’s 2008 F3AX-B program. In terms of difficulty, the program is roughly on par with the SMV’s IRM program, but it is also very well suited for the large F3AX class.

Once again this year, high-level competition was on display in a friendly atmosphere. The organizers ran the competition flawlessly. MG Breitenbach would like to thank everyone involved (scorers, pilots, and officials) and looks forward to seeing everyone again next year.
