2021 RCS-AKRO Open Swiss Championship in Eglisau

3

Fourteen pilots had registered for the regional program in the Advanced category at the Swiss Aerobatics Championship in Eglisau. Three guests from Germany were also in attendance. For the first time this year, a Freestyle Cup was also held. It was, therefore, a rich and varied program that took place this Saturday. On Friday afternoon, the pilots trained diligently once more to get accustomed to the conditions at the airfield.

On Saturday morning, fog prevented the competition from starting as planned. After the mandatory briefings, the competition unfortunately didn’t begin until 10:30 a.m. The pilots in the regional program flew the compulsory program twice and the freestyle routine once. In the Advanced group, pilots had to fly an “unknown” course and then the freestyle routine after the compulsory routine. One run each fell victim to the morning fog, so unfortunately there were no discarded results. Throughout the entire event, our trusted announcer Werni Erismann guided the program with great expertise and humor.

The Freestyle Cup followed the Swiss Championship competition. All participants were allowed to fly a second freestyle routine, and the final rankings were determined based on both runs. These performances were judged by three official judges and a public jury consisting of three selected individuals with no connection to model aviation. Before the rankings were announced, the two key organizers of the SAC were honored. Our emcee, Werni Erismann, thanked René Koblet for his tremendous dedication as the organizer of various events and competitions, and Andy Minnig for his role as coordinator and administrator of all SAC activities. Both received a small gift as a token of appreciation for their work within the Swiss-Akro Connection.

For two days, we enjoyed the hospitality of the MG Zurich in Eglisau. The members had set up exemplary facilities and provided outstanding catering specifically for the event. Tirelessly (and late into Friday evening), the ladies and gentlemen took care of our culinary needs and prepared a delicious lunch for everyone in attendance. Their work was honored with a round of applause.

Urs Schuppisser also praised the magnificent performance of the four tow pilots. In about one hundred (!) tows, they pulled the large gliders to the initial altitude of 450 or 550 meters without any incidents.

Not a single incident occurred during the two days. This speaks to the strong sense of responsibility and exemplary discipline of all the pilots and volunteers.

This was followed by the long-awaited announcement of the results by Werni Erismann, which he skillfully enlivened with anecdotes and a touch of humor.

The results were read out to applause, and the medal winners in each category received a trophy (RCS Acro Open Swiss Championship with Freestyle Cup, modellflug.ch).

Around 6:00 p.m., everyone present loaded their models into their vehicles and set off for home, satisfied and relaxed. It was another fantastic day that will remain in the memories of all participants for a long time to come.
