40 Years of Model Aircraft Enthusiasts for Model Aircraft Enthusiasts
In an age when the Internet—with Google, Facebook, and other media networks—seems to dominate the dissemination of information, the good old trade journal is no longer a suitable medium for spreading information... or is that just how it seems?
An editorial concept that is almost unthinkable today—namely, the compilation, editing, and publication of articles that are, almost exclusively, produced by the readers themselves—is celebrating an anniversary. But it’s not just the concept—the journal’s regular publication schedule is also part of its success.
In 2011, “modell flugsport” is now celebrating its remarkable 40th anniversary.
Throughout all these years, Emil Giezendanner has consistently managed to maintain the technical content of the magazine “modell flugsport” at a consistently high level. Open to new ideas while preserving tradition, “modell
flugsport” exemplarily represents the values of our sport and the interests of both active participants and “weekend flyers.” The magazine, which has been the official publication of the SMV for some time now, serves as a sustainable and effective platform for the Swiss Model Flying Association (SMV), the clubs it represents, and the model flying industry to present their concerns.
An indispensable prerequisite for this remarkable success story is the editor-in-chief’s personal commitment to our shared cause. Critical, attentive, and honest—and precisely for that reason not always easy to “handle”—Emil Giezendanner guides his now very mature “child” with great confidence through a time of
a rapid succession of new developments, both technical and social.
The integration of “modell flugsport” several years ago into a foundation of the same name—established to secure the magazine’s future, with the assistance of the SMV—has since laid the groundwork for the sustainable and positive development of our association’s magazine.
I would like to thank the editor-in-chief, my colleagues on the Foundation Board, and the Swiss Model Aviation Association for their tireless, successful, and personal commitment to a truly worthy cause. ■
