Information from the D-A-CH Model Aviation Associations
Following an initial meeting between the DMFV, SMV, and AeCS—convened by Yves Burkhardt in Dübendorf in the spring of 2011—the presidents and top representatives of the SMV/AeCS, DMFV, DAeC, and ÖAeC met in Friedrichshafen on November 5, 2011, at the invitation of the president of the Swiss Model Flying Association, Peter Germann, the presidents and top representatives of SMV/AeCS, DMFV, DAeC, and ÖAeC met in Friedrichshafen on November 5, 2011, for an informal meeting regarding potential further international cooperation among the German-speaking model aviation federations. The location of Friedrichshafen was not chosen at random, as the “Faszination Modellbau” trade show was taking place at the same time.
The high-level delegation discussed, in particular, the topics of association work, youth development, and safety in model aviation. During this meeting, the association representatives identified areas of common interest and need. Particularly regarding the topics of promoting young talent and safety in model aviation, significant potential was identified for developing joint strategies and leveraging the various opportunities for future projects.
Model aviation tourism has increased significantly in recent years and has fostered international connections among model aviators. Therefore, in keeping with the European spirit, it makes sense to break down these barriers as well and work together to take positive and beneficial steps for our shared cause: model aviation. Further annual meetings, each hosted by a different country, were welcomed and agreed upon by all participants. The next meeting will take place in Vienna in 2012, with a focus on promoting young talent and the goal of establishing simplified, attractive competitions for young pilots.
