MG Schaffhausen's Youth Programs in 2011

4

The MFG can look back on a very successful youth program in 2011. More than thirty girls and boys (10% female participation) took part in three events with joy and enthusiasm. In collaboration with the Lohn School, as part of the shop class curriculum,

42 lessons, UHU models (1956 version) were built and then flown at the MGS airfield. The models had to be built entirely from blueprints (no kits). As part of the city of Schaffhausen’s “SNÄCK” summer vacation program,

we successfully held a model aircraft introductory day for the third time. The morning program consisted of building a SAL Slipper (Graupner kit) and a brief theory session on the topic “Why do they fly?” In the afternoon, the models were test-flown, followed by a distance-flight competition. The top three winners received gift certificates for model aircraft flying lessons with the MGS flight instructor. To conclude the event, all participants were allowed to fly in the Leh-

students from the "rer" program get to fly a larger model.

Similar to the “SNÄCK” event, we held an open house in September for students from the communities surrounding our airfield.

It is a particular priority for the MGS to work with the students

not only to build and fly models, but also to teach them the theoretical basics of flying in a simple way. In addition to fostering a passion for flying, we also aim to instill in these young people an appropriate awareness of safety.
