INTRODUCTORY DAY FOR INDOOR FLY FISHING AT BADWEIHER

The St. Burkhard Model Aircraft Club (MFG) hosted an indoor flying open house on Sunday, November 22. Going into the event, we were skeptical about whether we could get the students excited about it. But even before the doors officially opened at 1:00 p.m., the first children began arriving, so we were able to immediately introduce them to the basics of model flying.

Focus on Theory and Practice

In the entrance area, there was a large-scale model with a gasoline engine and a glider with an electric motor, about which we provided expert information to interested visitors. To complement this, we used a wooden dummy model to clearly demonstrate the control surfaces using a remote control. Spectators watched the action in the hall from the gallery.

Anyone interested in indoor flying with a flight instructor could sign up. These aspiring pilots first headed to the simulator, where our two “pros” familiarized the children with their first attempts at flying. Fortunately, we were able to set up two simulators, both of which were in constant use.

Talented Players in the Gym

Our flight instructors in the indoor arena were also hard at work. Their reaction times were put to the test by all the student pilots. In the process, we discovered some talented pilots who immediately signed up for the outdoor flying experience this spring at our beautiful airfield in Isenbergswil. I, too, got to have my first experience flying a dual-control model in the gym and, as a seasoned model pilot, realized that the walls of the gym are closer than I thought.

Invited members of the Muri Municipal Council also took the opportunity to try indoor flying before the cocktail reception. This allowed them to experience firsthand what we do on winter Sunday mornings in the gym. Here, too, it was confirmed: model flying is challenging and engages all the senses.

What could be better than seeing children’s eyes sparkle with curiosity—and, of course, their parents’ too? Model flying isn’t just interesting for children; there’s no upper age limit.

At MFG St. Burkhard, supporting the next generation is a top priority, and the “Flight Academy” section on our website makes it easily accessible to anyone interested.
