Horseback Riding Fun 2024
On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Schaffhausen Model Aircraft Club (MGSH) once again hosted its traditional "Reiatplausch" event. The goal of this event is to demonstrate the versatility of model aviation to young people from the canton, in the hope of recruiting young pilots for the junior division.
A group of 16 students from the Schaffhausen region accepted the invitation and gathered on Saturday afternoon—amid unusually cool fall weather—at the “Oberi Ticki” model airfield near Büttenhardt. The participants had the opportunity to fly a glider using dual controls alongside an experienced model pilot, practice on a computer simulator, or experience a bird’s-eye view from the model during a drone flight with first-person view. At the same time, the MGSH pilots taught the basics of flying and how to control an aircraft. After enjoying grilled sausages and bread, the MGSH model pilots put on a short demonstration with their own models, bringing the event to a close shortly afterward with a group photo.
At the traditional gliding festival hosted by the Schaffhausen Gliding Club on September 7 and 8, 2024, the Schaffhausen Military Band, as always, helped run the festival food and beverage stands (for more information, visit www.schmerlat.ch). As part of the supporting program for the various manned aviation demonstrations—including performances by the PC-7 Squadron and the Swiss Army’s parachute reconnaissance unit—the MGSH presented an engaging model aircraft program featuring jets, warbirds, tow planes, and helicopters. At the information booth, visitors of all ages could also get detailed information about our hobby from our experienced model pilots. A contest was held for the children. They were allowed to paint the Depron Hunters provided by the NOS and then take them home. The turnout was as remarkable as the variety of the little works of art, and it truly enriched our time at the booth! We hope that here and there we were able to lay the groundwork for attracting more young and enthusiastic model aviators. The MGSH thanks all participants and volunteers for their keen interest and dedication. We’re already looking forward to the next events. Roger Fässler, on behalf of the Schaffhausen Model Flying Club.
