Visit to MFV Marbach

On November 6, we had the opportunity to give Mägi Horber’s class a closer look at our wonderful hobby; to do so, we met at the MFV Marbach model airfield.

Here is the report from Katja Späte, who documented everything for posterity.

Daniel Hofmann explained the various control surfaces (elevator, ailerons, and rudder) and flaps on the model airplanes. These serve the same function as on real airplanes and are subject to the same conditions (air masses, air density, weight, and fuel). Then he explained the axes and the function of the control surfaces during

We took a closer look at helicopter flight. The differences between gliders with and without engines, the specific uses of helicopters (passenger transport, mast installation, and the transport of animals, timber, and materials), as well as the beginnings of model building, were explained.

Of course, flying was a must. Unfortunately, it was stormy, so model helicopter pilot Daniel Hofmann dared to fly only his Bell 47 for a

Helicopter flight. Finally, the children wanted to know how high the models can fly, where they’re actually allowed to fly, whether any helicopters have crashed yet, and so on.

As a next step, the children will build a small model themselves, both with and without a motor.

Finally, each of them can carry out their own project on this topic and then present it to their classmates. ■

The "Flying" Pfiffikus Studio

The eight children from the Pfiffikus Art Studio at Marbach Elementary School are interested in flying. To get started on the topic, they visited the Altenrhein Aviation Museum.

Next, their teacher, Ms. Mägi Horber, contacted the Marbach Model Aircraft Club to ask if they could explain model flying in more detail.

So they met with Daniel Hofmann, Robert Brassel, and Hanspeter Kehl from the model flying club at the model flying field in Marbach. There, they were able to marvel at a wide variety of models, including high-wingers, flying wings, gliders, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters.
