Minivox “Super-Silent”

2

As is well known, the Federal Aviation Authority has issued regulations regarding the maximum noise level of model engines for the World Championships in Bern, and it is expected that these minimum requirements will apply to all model aircraft pilots in Switzerland in the future. It is therefore highly commendable that various companies both in Switzerland and abroad are stepping up their efforts to manufacture suitable silencers. Here we present the new MINIVOX, which has been well received in various model aviation circles. Here is the manufacturer’s description:

With a volume of 150 ccm ( $\varnothing 40$ mm), this new muffler has fifteen times the volume of the displacement of a 10 ccm engine. This results in even better exhaust gas expansion, which has a very positive effect on engine performance. Measurements showed a noise level of 78 dB(A) at a constant engine speed of 13,000 RPM.

It is possible to reduce the noise level even further if all other background noises—which, after all, account for a significant portion of the total noise—are eliminated. These include: intake noise, vibration noise caused by propeller imbalance, and the direct noise emitted by the engine. The exhaust noise alone will then measure only 76 dB(A).

We offer SIGRATHERM carbon felt as an additional, highly effective sound-absorbing material. Attached to the inner wall of the “SUPER-SILENT” with a heat-resistant adhesive, it absorbs high-frequency sounds and reduces the sound level by at least another 2 dB(A).

Recommended for engines 10 cc and larger.

Attaches to any engine using a replaceable adapter spacer and a clamp.
