Last October, the Breitenbach Model Aircraft Club hosted the Challenge Cup for the fourteenth time. Twenty-five pilots from five different regions gathered for this friendly competition to wrap up the season.

Five judges from the Bern and Northwest Switzerland regions evaluated the flights. With the number of participants limited to a maximum of 25 pilots, two rounds were held in the F3A and F3AX categories despite a weather-related delay.

Matthias Engeler won the F3A category, ahead of Marc Rubin and Reto Schuhmacher. It is worth noting that the total difference between the top five finishers was just 48 percentage points. In the F3AX category, last year’s winner and reigning Swiss champion Patrick Drack took first place ahead of Hugo Peyer and Jean Claude Spillmann. This category also featured a very close field of competitors

. The total percentage point difference from last place to the winner is 84%.

Overall, half of the pilots in the F3AX category used electric-powered models. In the F3A category, only two combustion-engine models were at the starting line. Nine pilots had equipped their models with electric powerplants. At this year’s Challenge Cup, the DMFV’s F3AX-B program was flown for the first time. This change proved successful and was well received by both the pilots and the judges.

As in all previous years, this year’s event featured excellent competition in a friendly atmosphere. The organizers ran the competition flawlessly. MG Breitenbach would like to thank everyone involved (judges, pilots, and officials) and looks forward to seeing everyone again next year.
