11th Birrfelder Cup, 1995, at the Birrfeld Airfield
After we had to cancel the competition last year after the first round due to strong winds and rain, the weather forecast for this year looked much better. In the morning, one hour before the start, there was no wind, so we set up the launch sites in the middle of the field. There were 31 F1A pilots at the start, including 5 juniors, 8 F1A/SK pilots, and 2 F1B pilots. As was the case last year, there were no F1M pilots.
Shortly before the start, the wind picked up. Since it was blowing in gusts at times, we decided to limit the flight time to 2 minutes. We were able to complete 5 rounds. Since the wind was blowing quite strongly at times (about 6–8 m/sec), the conditions were quite challenging. We did see a few models break during takeoff. The participants also had to walk quite a distance to get their models back to the launch site. We at MG Auenstein hope that just as many pilots will participate in our 12th Birrfelder Cup next year.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to the volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. I also want to thank the Birrfeld airfield management, specifically Mr. R. Vetterli, who made the site available to us on Good Friday for the eleventh time.
