The 8th Baden Indoor
For the past eight years now, the Indoor New Year’s Flying event has been held on January 2 in the gyms of the Cantonal School in Baden. The motto of the founder and organizer, Gloor & Amsler Modellbau, has been, is, and will always be: “Flying together into the new year for fun and to talk shop.”
... is actually quite simple—and yet it takes some doers to make it happen. Ringing in the New Year with friends and a shared hobby. You’d think nothing comes for free these days. That’s not entirely true; the Baden Indoor event is free and has plenty to offer! In addition to a wide variety of cakes and coffee, there were also assorted rolls, sweets, fruit, and a selection of cold drinks—
while supplies lasted. Everything was sponsored by the organizer—thank you very much! Of course, appropriate footwear was required to walk through the hall. As is standard practice, each pilot was responsible for their own liability and any potential damages. For those who wanted a hearty lunch, two restaurants were just a five-minute walk away.

Formation flying—Depronge stunts—wall climbing—indoor racing, and much more; it was another fantastic event—five pilots from our club took part. It was a blast—our Yaks (once again, new club-owned Yaks had been added ;-) caused quite a stir! Ueli Amsler had extended the invitation—and they came. Although there weren’t quite as many participants as in other
years, but that didn’t detract from the event at all. On the contrary, it meant every pilot got to fly very often. It was striking that there were relatively few homebuilt models on display. Even more striking was that we were practically the only ones who showed up on the scene with EPP models. At first, our “EPP bombers” were viewed with suspicion; however, this suspicion faded noticeably as the day went on and the more we flew them. A slightly—

A model built from EPP has no weight disadvantages compared to a Depron model! On the contrary, it is considerably sturdier and more durable—

than a standard Depron foam airframe. The maneuverability and, above all, the stability of our homemade Yaks and Progress (Poulets) were truly impressive! Many of those in attendance were therefore interested in the technical specifications of our models. Our Dieter (DD-Spider)
had really outdone himself; he brought a club-owned, superbly designed Yak 55 to Baden, where it successfully completed its maiden flight. Our Bertel, too, has made tremendous progress in indoor flying ever since he started flying this type of Yak. Generally speaking: In the
indoor arena, the pilot learns to master the model—especially the rudder function, which is otherwise so often neglected!
Special mention should also be made here of the GeeBee R3 (Donuts Models) by Beat Gohl. In addition to its usual agile handling, this indoor model was extremely fast, had a
impressive rudder response and excellent flight characteristics; a true indoor pylon racer. The previous trend toward biplanes is clearly waning; you could count them on one hand. The only female pilot participating flew a helicopter. A quadcopter and a few other unusual flying objects were also on display.
More pictures and even a short video can be found under “Picture Archive” ([www.mgkulm.ch](http://www.mgkulm.ch)).
We’d like to take this opportunity to once again extend a big thank you to Ueli Amsler, Urs Kupferschmid, and their helpers! It was an entertaining indoor day for everyone, and we had a lot of fun. We look forward to seeing you again next year. With best flying regards.
