RC Seaplane Meet at Baldeggersee

3

In the second half of April, about 25 members of the RC Seaplane Club gathered in summer-like weather for their first group flying session. A cloudless sky, pleasant temperatures, and calm winds made the event a success. After a brief briefing by the organizer, Gérard Kesselring, on the approach direction and the fine schedule (a five-franc fine for announcing a landing—it’s called “landing on water”!), the RC pilots were in no

unable to be stopped. The RC seaplanes, circling nonstop at a leisurely pace, prompted many hikers to stop by for a breather. The models made it abundantly clear that splash water—and, in some cases, larger amounts of water ingress due to capsizing—do not mix well with the controllers, as they bid farewell with thick clouds of smoke and headed for the great beyond. Minor landing mishaps were resolved with the help of an RC tugboat—

...were brought back to shore. We were treated to a very special highlight: a demonstration of an RC seaplane tow.

Thanks to Gérard’s organization—who also obtained the necessary permits—and the flying discipline of all participants, we were able to enjoy a great start to the season.
