RCS-Akro 2022
The weather forecasts didn't make it easy to decide whether to hold the regional aerobatics competition. We were all the more surprised, then, when Saturday morning turned out to be a beautiful, sunny spring day.
After the customary briefings by the judges and pilots, the competition flights got off to a quick start. Fourteen glider pilots from all over Switzerland registered for the regional program, and four pilots for the beginner program. Fortunately, there were some new faces and one junior competitor at the start. The sail-acro scene is growing!
Around noon, the poor weather forecasts began to come true. After several rain-related interruptions, competition director René Koblet made a last-minute change to the schedule and moved the freestyle flights up. This allowed the numerous spectators to enjoy some spectacular flights, which—accompanied by music and smoke—made for a particularly impressive display against the unique backdrop of the Jura Mountains and the spectacular cloud formations. Shortly thereafter, the heavens opened, and continuing the competition was no longer an option. The rankings were therefore determined based on the flights that had been completed.

The results were compiled based on the best flights without discarding any scores. Due to the pouring rain, the awards ceremony had to be held in the MVF-Gäu tent. As a result, unfortunately, no photos of the winners could be taken. Despite everything, the day was marked by a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Participants helped and supported one another, guiding and advising the newcomers. It became clear once again that tow-soaring and acrobatic flying are sports in which team spirit and cooperation are more important than the rankings. There was never any rush, except when covering and protecting the precious models from the rain. The ideal setting provided by the MFV Gäu certainly contributed greatly to the event’s success and the positive atmosphere. The volunteers supported us, ran a perfect food stand with excellent grilled dishes, and made their flying field and the entire infrastructure surrounding the airfield available to us for this Saturday. A big thank you to the MFV Gäu!
