When Private Initiatives Succeed

Many things that were discussed among colleagues and sparked new ideas have ultimately been brought to fruition thanks to personal dedication. Not everything succeeds. But a few projects and initiatives—driven by optimism and a love of new challenges—manage to succeed time and again. Instead of waiting for some association committee, we need forward-thinking people who will support the cause. Great examples include the introduction of the F5J electric flight class in Switzerland, the promotion of junior sports, and the Sportflyers competitions, among others.

A “tradition” among the young at MG Uster: Many young RC aerobatic pilots are familiar with the Nänikon airfield. And, importantly, so are their parents. As a result, the Sportflyers competition has become something of an autumn festival. To keep things from getting too serious, there are points, praise, and constructive criticism—along with a sausage on the side. The juniors show off their skills with great enthusiasm, while proud fathers and mothers snap away until their cell phone batteries run dry. These almost “romantic” accounts often require a bit of time, patience, and faith that you’re on the right path. All those who help bring Sportflyers to life deserve our thanks and respect. We’re already looking forward to next year. But first, there’s still work to be done and training to be completed. Good luck.
