Young SilentWings – Sports Development Program for Junior Athletes in the NOS Region
The YoungSilentWings model aircraft building course offered by the Model Flying Association of Northeastern Switzerland recently concluded with great success. Participants from the Northeastern Switzerland (NOS) region and neighboring areas had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of model flying and gain hands-on experience building model airplanes.
Under the expert guidance of experienced instructors, the young participants were guided step by step through the process of designing and assembling their model airplanes. The building course offered an ideal blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, with a special emphasis on precision and teamwork.
In addition to technical skills, the building course also fostered an understanding of aerodynamics and the physical principles of flight. Participants gained insights into various building materials and construction methods, which significantly expanded their knowledge in the field of model development.
On the final day of the model-building course, the participants presented their finished models, which were successfully test-flown under the guidance of This Bosshard at the MG Uster airfield. The joy and enthusiasm of the young model builders were clearly evident as their models successfully took to the skies. This concluding highlight not only encapsulated the learning gains of the past few days but also strengthened the sense of community among the participants.
The highlight of the model-building course was a visit with the PC-7 pilots in Hall 2 of the Aviation and Air Defense Museum.
The pilots of the PC-7 squadron introduced themselves to the fan club and then took the time to sign our juniors’ models. You could see the joy in the young people’s eyes!
The Northeast Switzerland Model Aviation Association is delighted with the positive response and plans to continue the YoungSilentWings model-building course in the coming years to introduce even more young people to the fascination of model aviation. Overall, the model-building course proved to be a valuable experience for everyone involved and once again underscored the importance of hands-on learning in fostering technical and social skills.
The building course concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participating juniors and their parents. The joy and pride the young people felt in their accomplishments were palpable in the hall.
A big thank you goes to our construction supervisors, who take on this task every year with great dedication and expertise.
Starting in January 2025, Andreas Schwerzmann will serve as president of Modellflug Region Nordostschweiz (NOS) and, in that capacity, as director of the “Young SilentWings” sports development program for junior participants. This program consists of equipping participants with an aerobatic or glider model, supervised training, and coaching at competitions.
