WHAT IS FPV RACING?

FPV Racing, or First Person View Racing, is a form of racing in which participants pilot small remote-controlled drones equipped with cameras on defined and secured race tracks.

Pilots see from the camera’s perspective and control the drone using video feeds displayed on a screen or special FPV goggles. The goal in FPV Racing is to be the first to fly through a specific course or navigate past certain obstacles. FPV Racing is a fast-paced and thrilling sport that is growing in popularity and is practiced in many countries around the world (Swiss FPV Racing).

Event item: drone
Dimensions: approx. 32–26–13 cm, weight: approx. 700 g, speed: approx. 150 km/h.

These are the dimensions of the Racer drone. And then there are the TV goggles.

Watching the drones navigate the obstacle course isn’t particularly thrilling for spectators. The

drones are hard to see from a distance due to their size. A visit to the service box is all the more interesting. Just like in a Formula 1 race, there are countless technical gadgets: from electronic equipment and measuring instruments to chargers and, of course, drone spare parts.

On June 18, 2023, amid beautiful spring weather, a race in the Swiss championship, Swiss FPV Racing, took place. Most of the participants were young people from German-speaking Switzerland. The event ran smoothly throughout the day. The participants from Ticino placed in the middle of the standings. The club provided food and refreshments, including cold drinks.

The highlight of the day was, of course, the victory celebration in the late afternoon, which also marked the end of the event. It was a great day, much to the organizer’s satisfaction. A big thank you to GAM2000 for helping introduce the public to a new sport in the world of model aircraft.
