The Swiss RC Sail Acrobatics Championship in Wetterglück

All the pilots and officials who had traveled to the event looked skeptically and with a touch of disbelief at the cloud-covered sky and the freshly snow-capped mountain peaks when competition director René Koblet announced the start of the Swiss Championship at 11 a.m. But sure enough: After days of continuous rain and dismal weather forecasts, we began the competition flights at that time under dry conditions.

Despite the delay, all flights were completed as scheduled. At exactly 5:00 p.m., the last pilot finished his freestyle routine.

Before the official announcement of the results, competition director René thanked all glider pilots for their focus and discipline, the tow pilots for their reliable and professional service, the judges for their valuable work, and above all, the host club, MFG Falknis. Under the direction of Silvio Meier and his team of helpers, we were treated to excellent food and a delicious cake buffet throughout the event. All participants thanked the MFG Falknis crew with a round of loud applause. During the awards ceremony, all participating pilots received not only a certificate from Silvio but also a bottle of wine from the local wine-growing region. Thank you very much! The medalists in the Elite category are: 1st place and 2023 Swiss Champion Andreas Schaerer, 2nd place local hero Silvio Meier, and 3rd place Adrian Eggenberger.

In the Sportsmen category, Oliver Rentsch took 1st place, Claude Rouiller took 2nd place, and Jérôme Richard took 3rd place. The remaining rankings can be found on the MSV website.

For once, luck was definitely on our side when it came to the weather. Who would have thought the day before or early Saturday morning that we’d be able to complete the entire Swiss Championship—all five rounds—by evening in dry conditions and under excellent weather?
