"Tandem," a word derived from Latin, has many loose interpretations; here, it refers to a front-and-back arrangement or a side-by-side position.

This means that two pilots—an instructor and a student—fly the same aircraft together, using two transmitters. The student can therefore control the aircraft on their own, and the instructor steps in only in case of an emergency.

During the summer, the vacation season, GAM2000 organizes a day for young people featuring an introductory lesson on model aircraft flying.

This is an introduction to the basics of flying a model airplane, incorporating both simulator training and actual flight. In addition to learning about aerodynamics and aircraft construction, participants then make their first attempts on the simulator. There’s no denying that this is a highlight for the kids.

After the simulator comes the practical part. The instructor flies a model aircraft—with a wingspan of about 2 meters—to a certain altitude and then hands control over to the student.

Of course, this is done with preliminary instructions. In this way, one by one, they experience what it’s like to fly.

It’s incredible how quickly the young people grasp the concept of flying.

After all that effort, it’s time for a delicious plate of pasta salad—which tastes excellent—and we treat ourselves to a rest during lunch.

The afternoon continues, for those who wish, with more time on the simulator or actual flight. A beautiful summer day is drawing to a close—a day of fun, entertainment, and satisfaction. Have any of the young people developed a taste for model aircraft? We’ll see in the future.

Thanks to our pilots, Simone Pusterla and Mario Cigardi, for their patience.

And to Egidio Maglio, our cook, for the delicious lunch.
