With this article, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Georg Staub for all the hard work he has done over the many years as a technical editor. Georg was already involved with large sailboats when they were still in their infancy. Back then, boats measuring 3 to 4 meters were considered large sailboats; today, the upper limit is virtually unlimited. Without DIY projects (or building them yourself), none of this would be possible. In 1982, Georg founded the Large Glider Interest Group (IGG) together with Peter Aeberli, and it was a huge success right from the start. To this day, the IGG brings together model aviators interested in designing and flying large model gliders. In addition to his organizational work, Georg flew extensively himself and devoted himself intensively to the design of beautiful, true-to-scale, and high-performance model gliders. Georg authored numerous technical articles and reports on both flying and design. In these, he explained complex concepts in an accessible way, offered valuable practical tips, and fostered a love and fascination for large model gliders. His instructions for building stable, lightweight, yet beautiful wings remain unforgettable, as do his design and construction reports on the various SB-14 and Diana designs, such as: www.modell-flugsport.ch Georg continued to refine these model gliders over decades and, through his work as a technical editor, shared his expertise with a wide audience. Several of his designs found their way into production by prestigious Eastern European manufacturers and thus also reached model aviators who are unable to build them themselves. Georg, your reports were always exciting and informative—we will miss them. We wish you continued joy and success in designing and flying.
