F3A Vintage Meeting in Dübendorf

New edition featuring exclusively F3A models

Such a meeting honors the long-deceased organizers of the 1960 World Championships as well as the FAI (of which the AeCS is a founding member). The large crowd, despite the rather inclement weather, gave the then-fledgling international competition class a tremendous boost, including here in our region. For that reason alone, an F3A event that commemorates those times is to be welcomed. It would be a shame if the event were diluted, despite the naturally limited number of participants.

You could practically smell the F3A atmosphere

Unfortunately, because of my many athletic activities, I was unable to attend the 1960 World Championships myself. But my brother Bruno did. I’m absolutely certain that’s where he caught the aerobatics bug. A few years later, he became the Swiss F3A champion (known as RCMM in Switzerland and RC-1 in Germany) and, in 1969, the world champion. That’s why I ask for a little understanding—when I think of F3A and the Dübendorf airfield, I can’t help but feel a bit sentimental.

Many thanks to the organizers and volunteers at MG Dübendorf, including Nello Nero, as well as the airfield. It would be great if this event could be held periodically. The veterans of the F3A scene would love to meet up with you there.
