Central Sempachersee Region: We Can Do It Together

In this article, I would like to show that two model-building categories—which could not be more different—can simultaneously showcase their models to the large audience in attendance.

What exactly is this about?

Every two years, after the end of the swimming season at the Sempach lakeside resort, the Olten Model Shipbuilding Club holds a model ship exhibition featuring its various model ships. The display ranges from small kit boats to magnificent single- and multi-masted sailing ships, steamboats, and airplanes—

ships, submarines, workboats, and more. There were 260 boats present on Sunday. Just imagine that!

An Invitation to the Flying “Ships”

For the second time, the Olten Model Shipbuilding Club invited us, the “Wasserflieger,” to this event. We were happy to accept the invitation and attended with a fairly large number of pilots and seaplane models. The organizing club had put together a very well-structured schedule for the various show segments. The venue announcer expertly kept the large crowd informed about what was happening on and above the water.

Mutual Respect

It was interesting for both sides to see what the other group had to offer. Everyone took a look at each other’s models, asking and/or being asked: “How did you do that?” On both sides, no one made a secret of their model or its functions. We were simply one big family of model builders who shared mutual respect and took joy in each other’s successful creations.

More mice gathered together

With this short report, I simply want to show that two different categories of model building can indeed coexist in the same place at the same time. All it takes is communication. It's that simple. We at flie-

On behalf of our guild, we would like to thank our fellow boaters once again for the invitation and the wonderful performance we shared.

We’d love to come back in two years.
