Helicopter Swiss Cup, Round 1

After a break of just over two years, the 1st Swiss Cup 2022 was held at MSV Unteres Aaretal under ideal flying conditions.

Even before the pandemic, a decline in interest had become apparent, so at the end of 2021, a new set of rules was created that allows anyone who flies helicopters to select their routine from 19 flight maneuvers and perform it in the competition.

Ten pilots had registered, ranging from beginners to top pilots; all were highly motivated, and everyone gave it their all.

After three rounds, the rankings were announced. In accordance with the new regulations, an awards ceremony was not held. However, the “Pilot of the Day” award was presented to Lucian Aeschlimann. The young man from Thun has made great progress since last year and always travels to the competition venue by public transportation, carrying his helicopter in a carrying case. It seems that the rule changes have indeed rekindled interest in competition-style flying among some participants, and we naturally hope that this trend will continue to grow. The beauty of these events lies not only in the flying itself, but also in the sense of community and the interaction among participants. Of course, the excellent catering provided by the host club, the beautiful panoramic view of the airfield, and the already summer-like temperatures also contributed to this.

On behalf of the Swiss Cup team, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the host, MSVUA, the judges, and all the competitors who contributed to the success of this wonderful event.

The second round will take place on August 27, and we hope to welcome everyone back—and perhaps a few more participants as well. Details about this second round will be published shortly.

With that in mind, have a wonderful flying season and may there always be plenty of lift under your wings!
