Testimonial
The goal at the 2nd Innovator Day 2010 at Degenberg in Ibach near Schwyz was to build on that success. This time, under the patronage of HELITEC and Speedmodels GmbH, ThunderTiger’s model helicopter concept in the 450-class electric helicopter category—the Innovator—was showcased at an exclusive venue.
The owners of HELITEC, Volker Grasmück and Ruedi Steiner, together with Stefan Raiser from Speedmodels, had once again organized an interesting and comprehensive day dedicated to this product.
They also took into account the experiences from 2009 in Langenthal, drew lessons from them, and put those lessons into practice.
The following daily schedule was available online and could be followed on June 27, 2010, amid glorious weather:
| 9:00 a.m. | Start of Inno Day |
| 11:00 | 1st Show Segment |
| 2:00 p.m. | Arrival of the Lama SA 315 |
| 2:30 | 2nd show segment |
| 3:45 | Mass flight with Innovator (17 Innos flying together) |
| 3:00 | End of Competition/Fox Hunt |
| 3:15 | Drawing for the daily competition (helicopter sightseeing flight) |
| 4:00 | Start of helicopter sightseeing flight/End of the event |
Once again, the event centered on the product: ThunderTiger’s Innovator electric helicopter, a completely new and unique concept. This RTF model is available in two versions: the MD 530, designed for beginners or those switching from other models, and the EXPERT—as its name suggests—for seasoned, experienced helicopter pilots accustomed to higher performance. On the grounds surrounding the “Besenbeiz” at Degenberg—flanked by the two Mythen mountains and offering a spectacular view of Lake Lucerne and, in part, Lake Lauerz—the following attractions were featured:
- Daily Competition
- Introductory/Test Flights
- Instructor-student sessions
- Setup service/free flying
- Software training
- Battery Diagnostics
- Model and Accessories Shop/Sales
- Food and Beverage Stand (and of course, the ice cream stand was there too!)
- Show Sessions
- Children’s Playground
Once there, I was able to see for myself the extensive offerings and, once again, the flawless organization. I also immediately ran into Stefan Raiser, who gave me a tour of the grounds, introduced me to the two owners of HELITEC, and filled me in on the most important details. Based on lessons learned from the last Innovator Day, additional checks were introduced for the distribution of batteries; the instructor-student sessions ran smoothly under supervision, and there was also supervision during free flight. Especially during the highly sought-after instructor-student sessions, the goal was to give everyone interested a chance to fly. Over 80 instructor-student flights were successfully completed!
As an active demo pilot for the Innovator, I met Hugo

Markes, also a well-known figure in the model helicopter scene and the owner of Hobby-Modellsport in Pfäffikon, ZH. During a demonstration segment, he showcased the EXPERT’s flight capabilities, thrilling the audience.
Thanks to the glorious weather, numerous spectators and interested visitors turned out and were treated to a full demonstration of everything this product has to offer. The representative from TunderTiger Europe, Mr. Jörk Hennek, was on site and was able to personally share his experience, knowledge, and expertise regarding this product with those in attendance. I’d like to recap the key features of this product:
- High-Performance SUPER COMBO R/C Helicopter
- The safest system
- Next-generation fun
- Collective Pitch Control System
- 3-in-1 servo electronics
- Key Features of the Intelligent Control System (ICS)
- Automatic Shutdown
- Innovator’s proprietary 2.4 GHz iFHSS system
- Innovator Software and Flight Simulator
- Easy Operation
- Alarm analysis

- Custom Configuration
- Read and analyze the flight data recorder and much more at:
Considering the prices, I can only agree with the statement made among model aircraft enthusiasts: “The only RTF model in this class that truly deserves that label—unbox and fly!”
The second Innovator Day was also a great success. The flawless organization once again left nothing to be desired and deserves praise. The many volunteers—including the entire staff of Speedmodels GmbH, Mr. Jork Hennek from ThunderTiger Europe, and HELITEC Brunnen—deserve our heartfelt thanks.
Now the only question remains… where and when will the 3rd Inno Day take place?
Walter Heller,
MFV Rapperswil-Jona
