2. Old Friends Fly in Marbach
We got together in fantastic weather for the second edition of our helicopter flying event among like-minded enthusiasts. First off—we had a lot of fun and really flew our hearts out.
First, I’d like to thank my fellow organizers Hanspeter and Fritz for their great support! Then I’d like to thank Roli Kaufmann for the great idea of the fondue and for bringing the equipment, and the MFV Marbach for making the model airfield available. Last but not least, thanks to all the participants for coming and for creating such a great atmosphere. Ten pilots from all over Switzerland actually made their way to Marbach. They all brought along some truly amazing and beautiful models, ranging from 50 cm in rotor diameter to 2.3 meters. What a unique variety of helicopters!
We kicked things off in beautiful spring weather with coffee and delicious croissants for all the early risers. Then everyone could fly to their heart’s content. In between, there was time for some club members to fly their fixed-wing planes. From what I heard, there were even a few maiden flights. At noon, the fire under the cheese pot was stoked; Roli chopped up a lot of garlic and seasoned it well. It was excellent! In the end, we “polished off” a good 1.6 kg of cheese. One or two guests, spectators, or clubmates also tried a forkful or two of cheese at the end.
Afterward, Fritz organized his little competition, in which two first prizes were up for grabs. For each of the two best-executed gliding maneuvers, the four participants could compete for the bratwurst. In the end

Walter Beeler and Fritz Keller each achieved the highest score possible based on the three

Points were awarded by the judges. However, since lunch was so substantial, the food was no longer cooked on site.
It was a truly wonderful event, and I had a blast spending such a lovely day among like-minded people!
Last but not least, I’d like to thank everyone for the pleasant atmosphere, the professional conduct on the field, and the safe flying of all the models.
I’m already looking forward to March 23—with a backup date of March 30, 2019. ■
Warm regards
, Dani Hofmann
