52nd Zäziwil Friendship Fly-In, RCS Hang
Finally! After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, we were able to hold our 52nd Friendship Fly-In on March 20, 2022, under very pleasant weather conditions. Thirty-two pilots from all over Switzerland registered and participated. Thank you all very much for your interest and participation!
There were slightly fewer participants than usual, which surely had various reasons. Nevertheless, it was a very successful event, and the pilots really enjoyed being able to meet again and compete! The participants arrived, enjoyed some coffee, and were then welcomed by our president, Thomas Stucki. Patrick Schüpbach, our new technical director, guided us through the day together with Werner Hörler and Fritz Berger. Thanks to all three of you—things went smoothly without being too stressful. Due to the smaller number of participants, we took an hour-long lunch break. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks and a big “bravo” to the kitchen crew—Adrian, Heidi, Svenja, Edith, and Klara—who kept us wonderfully fed all day with bratwurst, hot dogs, sandwiches, beer, mineral water, coffee, and cake!
Our team up on the hill worked very hard and reliably to launch the gliders. Thank you very much for your dedication—the physical effort involved should not be underestimated!
The three teams from Landefeld measured the times and distances carefully and accurately. Thank you very much for your discipline and your tireless efforts!
Three rounds were flown. The flying conditions were good, but also typical of our beloved hobby, which takes place outdoors. Thermals could be found almost at any time, the wind direction shifted a few times, and for a brief moment, nothing was happening at all. As a result, there were a few off-field landings, even by experienced pilots. The level of skill was high as always, and we never cease to be amazed at how precisely the pilots can land—both in terms of timing and location! Hats off to all of you!

We had plenty of time to socialize this time around, which made us very happy. I think we’d all missed talking shop. It’s even more fun to share our hobby with like-minded people!
Once again, a big thank you to the pilots for participating in our competition and to all the volunteers from MG-Grosshöchstetten for their hard work! We plan to hold the Zäziwiler again in March 2023, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the event.
We wish you a wonderful and successful 2022 season as you enjoy our great hobby! ■
Dominic Frey
