14th Aros Antique Model Sailplane Meet 2009
While the Arosa Antique Glider Model Gatherings have enjoyed good weather on several occasions in recent years, weather forecasts for this year called for rain. It’s remarkable that all registered participants showed up.
Under these circumstances, it was decided on Saturday morning to remain at the Weisshornbahn mid-station. With great enthusiasm, the helpful staff at the Weisshornbahn made it possible to set up an impressive display of the models right in the middle of the middle station. However, it turned out that the weather was better than forecast. After lunch at the Brüggerstuba restaurant, we made our way to the Tschuggen launch site. Despite the clouds, there was plenty of lift. It was a familiar sight: the gliders gliding leisurely through the air delighted everyone present. On Sunday morning, it was gray and damp again.

Fortunately, there were some new participants and models on display. Care must be taken to ensure that the requirement for “Swiss plywood construction, true to the original materials and dimensions” is carefully adhered to. This also applies to the authentic wing attachment using rubber rings. When it comes to remote-control components such as rudder linkages, switches, antennas, etc., good solutions are needed: everything should be designed to be as inconspicuous as possible and made with materials from a bygone era. We can only hope that carefully crafted plywood model airplanes will continue to find their way to Arosa. Alfred Genther
