Aschi is flying away forever!

On the evening of August 20, 2010, Stefan Ernst left us forever. Despite his great optimism, he lost his battle with an incurable illness.

Everyone who knew him knows that the inscription “Aschipower” on his models was more than just empty talk. His enthusiasm for model flying and his outlook on life were the driving force behind many challenging projects.

Stefan Ernst was born on June 26, 1975, and celebrated his 35th birthday on June 20, 2010. In 1987, Stefan joined MG Bern as a junior. He got his start in model aviation with free flight in the F1E category of magnet-controlled gliders (slope flying). At the 1989 Engstligen Cup

and again a year later at the World Cup competitions at Hahnenmoos and Wasserkuppe, he placed second in each event. After these experiences in free flight, he switched with great enthusiasm to the ranks of RC pilots. Whenever Aschi showed up at the airfield, action was guaranteed. So it’s no surprise that the disciplines of the Role-Spez team competition were created with him in mind. Of course, he was always among the top finishers, because model flying was only half as much fun for him without taking risks. If, despite giving it his all, the model was still intact after the competition, a pylon race was quickly organized on the spot—and that’s when the show really got going!

Aschi also proved that he had technically challenging models fully under control, and he was thrilled to fly his Lightning and the Jet. But Aschi didn’t just dedicate himself to the airfield; for many years, he served as secretary of MG Bern until his health no longer allowed him to hold the office. He also enthusiastically helped out on the organizing committee for the air show celebrating our 75th anniversary

on the organizing committee. Unfortunately, his wish to participate in the air show with the jet was never fulfilled. Even though Aschi is no longer with us, he will always have a special place in our memories. Aschi, you gave so much to all of us; we wish you a safe flight into eternity.
