Center-of-gravity scale, torso support, and multitool

Which of us model pilots hasn’t gotten frustrated while building or maintaining our models? The fuselage slides around on the workbench like a freshly caught trout—it’s so annoying. This has already led to some of the most ingenious mounting designs. Robbe Modellsport has taken on this challenge and, with the RO-Spider, offers a “universal tool.”

Tool-free adjustment options

Thanks to its innovative design, the RO-Spider, when used as a fuselage stand, enables and facilitates all conceivable work on small to larger scale gliders and (electric) model gliders with a wingspan of up to 4.5 m. The RO-Spider also provides a secure hold for narrow F3F models. Thanks to its tool-free adjustment options, the RO-Spider offers a wide range of support configurations. The RO-Spider can also be used as a center-of-gravity balancer. Two ball-bearing-mounted wing supports, mounted on a measuring carriage, enable precise center-of-gravity determination. During the measurement process itself, a specially shaped bracket prevents the

RO-Spider Kit and Assembly

The kit consists of milled wooden parts, two aluminum tubes, screws, and knurled nuts, as well as a richly illustrated assembly manual, and arrives in a colorful box. The parts are very neatly milled from 9-mm plywood and secured on the back with a white film. The film is best removed with a heat gun; otherwise, film residue may remain on the parts.

stick and are difficult to remove. The components fit together perfectly, and rework is rarely necessary. Although the assembly instructions themselves are extensively illustrated, many of the pictures aren’t particularly helpful. Here I’d like to refer you to the Bavarian RC YouTube channel, where there’s a great video on assembling the RO-Spider. If you have enough time during the day, assembly takes about 2 hours, and the RO-Spider is then ready for use—whether in your home workshop or at the airfield (dimensions approx. 36×26×16 cm)—as a very useful tool.

My Conclusion

This new Robbe multifunction tool makes working on our models much easier and is a must-have for any model airplane workshop!
