40 flights in 5 hours

Challenge-Cup 2021 Breitenbach

After a two-year hiatus, we finally had the opportunity to hold the Challenge Cup again. In 2019, we had to cancel the event due to persistent rain, and in 2020, the competition could not take place because of COVID-19 restrictions.

This made us look forward to the 25th edition all the more, and we were rewarded with 20 registered pilots and blue skies starting at noon. We dispelled the morning fog with an extensive brainstorming session over coffee and croissants, followed by an early lunch. We’ll likely have to push back the start time of the event a bit in the future.

Despite the delayed start of the competition, two rounds were flown in both categories, just as in previous years.

The judging panel—comprising Daniela Schmitter, Emil Giezendanner, Claude Suter, and Markus Witschi—contributed to the smooth running of the competition with their tireless efforts. In the Classic class, with 13 pilots competing, last year’s winner Marc Rubin took first place ahead of Matthias Bossard and Sandro Veronelli. In the Tucson class, with six pilots competing, Patrick Drack once again dominated, as he has in previous years, followed by Phillip Schürmann and Jean Claude Spillmann. A total of 40 flights were completed in 5 hours in a spirited and friendly atmosphere. At the closing awards ceremony, each participant was presented with a trophy in recognition of their athletic achievements.

Once again, we successfully organized this friendly competition. The Breitenbach Model Aircraft Club would like to thank all participants, judges, officials, and our kitchen team for their hard work. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
