A rich annual program
SwissAkro Connection is a group of dedicated model airplane pilots who are committed to aerobatics with glider models. A leadership team consisting of seven active model pilots has set itself the goal of raising awareness of glider aerobatics within the model aviation community and inspiring new model pilots to take an interest in this exciting discipline and get involved. For this reason, the crew—led by René Koblet and Andy Minnig—plans and organizes regional competitions, the Swiss Championships, and the SwissAkro Cup. It also hosts training sessions at various model airfields throughout German-speaking Switzerland, which are open to all interested model pilots. For the first time, during last year’s season, in various

Three trial days were held in various regions, during which model airplane enthusiasts could learn about flying in competitions and receive an introduction to aerobatics. These trial days are scheduled to be offered again in the coming season. In November 2021, the first StyroCup took place. It was covered in detail in the last issue of MFS. Fortunately, all of these opportunities were well attended, and we hope to see some of these participants at upcoming events.
This competition features two categories: “Regional” and “Rookie Beginners.” The Regional program is for experienced pilots, and the Rookie Beginners program is for pilots who want to gain their first experience in aerobatic gliding. Model airplane pilots who have participated in introductory days or the StyroCup, or who have a little experience in aerobatics, will be able to fly the “Rookie Beginner” program without any problems. This program also includes models that can power themselves up to launch altitude and do not need to be based on scale models.
Further information about the competitions, registration, and photos from the various events can be found on the website: www.swissakro.ch
