Frieden Fritz is no longer with us

On July 14, Fritz Frieden passed away after a long illness. He had been a member of the Bern Model Flying Club since 1965. He also frequently traveled to the Bernese Oberland to fly. He could often be found at the St. Stephan airfield in Zweisimmen, Canton of Bern. He always traveled in his VW bus—it was impossible to miss that he was a model aviator. He was at the wheel, his wife Gerdi in the passenger seat, and in the back were the models: gliders, powered planes, and helicopters. Despite his laid-back, easygoing nature, he also flew more high-performance planes; he always had one or two Hunters in his workshop, ready to fly. He was open to all disciplines, so he didn’t shy away from helicopter flying, which was complicated at the time. Although he was a model aircraft enthusiast through and through, building models wasn’t necessarily his strong suit; he had many of his models built for him. He was at home at the airfield, where he could truly thrive and find a balance alongside his demanding professional work. We will remember Fritz fondly.
