Under the Sign of Icarus's Dream
Despite the chilly breeze and the 11° morning temperature in the Geneva Champagne region, there was a large crowd this weekend at the GAM Genève field, located between the villages of Athenaz and Laconnex. The host club was organizing its traditional annual late-summer meet. Preparations, which began more than six months before the event, ensured that the venue was equipped with outstanding facilities to accommodate the 110 registered drivers and 1,500 spectators who came to admire a fantastic model car display.
While the young girls went for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage and the children were entertained by the clown from the Bernex Circus School, the spectators enjoyed a breathtaking show. Over the course of two days, the program featured speed flights, aerobatics, kerosene-powered jets, glider tows, and electric or turbine-powered helicopters performing three-dimensional aerobatics. Pilots from all over Switzerland and the neighboring region of France took turns over the course of two days, performing more than 120 breathtaking flights. Notable aircraft included a twin-engine F-15 Eagle with a 2-meter wingspan, Extras 260, 300, and 330 and Yak 55s with wingspans exceeding 3 meters, racers reaching speeds of over 300 km/h, gliders ranging from 3 to 7 meters in length and weighing up to 30 kg, a Mirage 2000, a Jet Ranger and a Lama with a rotor over 3 meters in diameter, a single-turbine Su-27, a T-6 and a Bearcat with a radial engine exceeding 200 cm³, a massive Fokker triplane, and many more.

The catering team also rose to the occasion. To feed spectators and drivers, more than 100 kilograms of French fries (about 450 servings), 240 sausages, 12 spit-roasted meats, a paella 1.2 meters in diameter, 20 kg of chicken stir-fry with mushrooms, and 40 kilograms of beef stew were prepared by the GAM Geneva team. Visitors could also quench their thirst with sodas, good draft beers, or wines from nearby vineyards.
Thanks to the many pilots from partner clubs, the support of local authorities in neighboring villages, and the dedication of its entire team, GAM Geneva is proud to invite you to the next edition of its meet in September 2009.
On behalf of GAM Geneva:
Paul Benz, Pierre Bugnon,
François Ballis
