Hans Schmid Has Passed Away

Hans Schmid was a veteran of the Central Swiss model aviation scene. Having joined the Pilatus Model Aviation Club in his youth, he later devoted countless hours to his fellow club members over the course of decades as chairman and equipment and facility manager of the Lucerne Model Aviation Club. In his role as regional chairman, he guided the direction of the Central Swiss model aviation scene for several years.

As an instructor, he taught countless interested students how to build model airplanes in courses at local schools. For many years, he led the Aeroclub’s aircraft-building courses at Hahnenmoos. He himself repeatedly surprised everyone at the airfield with his replicas of vintage aircraft and his impressive original designs. For example, many years ago, he equipped a glider with a camera. The fact that Hans also enjoyed photography allowed the group to relive past events and see a wide variety of aircraft during many a slide show evening.

On July 27, Hans left us forever, shortly after having invited a few colleagues to a Sunday cocktail party. ■
