Model Airplane Exhibition in Untersiggenthal

In December, the Untersiggenthal-Turgi Model Aircraft Club held its traditional biennial model aircraft exhibition. At the multipurpose hall in Untersiggenthal, interested visitors—not just industry experts—were treated to a broad overview of model building and model aircraft flight.

From the early days of free flight all the way to modern jets, visitors had plenty to see. But it wasn’t just models that anyone can buy in a store. No! The exhibition also demonstrated that there are still enthusiasts today who build their own models. They source blueprints, procure the necessary materials, and then, through meticulous, detailed work—and in some cases, an enormous investment of time—build the model from scratch. Some build smaller models, others slightly larger ones. The models weren’t just on display—they were also flown. Throughout the exhibition, members of the model flying club demonstrated how the models can be flown through various displays. Interested visitors even had the opportunity to steer and fly a model helicopter using dual controls alongside a flight instructor.

This opportunity was then eagerly taken up by a number of brave visitors. Why brave? After all, they “had” to take what might have been their first helicopter flight in front of numerous aviation experts who would have done it better anyway. In the craft corner, young and old alike could try their hand at making paper airplanes—in all the usual, familiar, and traditional styles, as well as some unusual variations and colors—under the expert guidance of a group member. Culinary delights were not neglected either. In the traditional spaghetti restaurant, visitors could indulge in their favorite—

devote themselves to the well-being of others. Over salad, spaghetti, and drinks, as well as a lavish cake buffet,

visitors—either on their own or with members of the group—engaged in interesting conversations. *F. Jäger*
