MBO – Eastern Switzerland Model Building Fair Kicks Off Successfully in Sitterdorf
On May 29, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. sharp, the big day had finally arrived. After several months of intensive preparations, reaching out to model aircraft clubs in Eastern Switzerland, searching for a suitable location, advertising in trade magazines, and with the generous support of SMV Switzerland, the first model-building exchange in Eastern Switzerland was successfully held.
The organizers had the idea to launch a model-building swap meet in Eastern Switzerland, similar to those that have been successfully held in Dübendorf and the Bern area for years. They wanted to host an event featuring working models and top-quality model-building supplies—and they succeeded very well. Model airplane pilots, model builders, bargain hunters, and many other interested visitors were on site, where they could share their years of experience or receive expert advice on a wide range of details. The variety of model aircraft was outstanding and generated great interest among all visitors. Top models—ranging from simple gliders to single- and twin-engine airplanes, helicopters, and jets—were displayed on over 40 exhibitor tables and on the floor (for large scale models). Model-building equipment and other accessories further enhanced the extensive selection. This meant that the many bargain hunters

snag some great deals at reasonable prices.
It was no coincidence that the Sitterdorf Adventure Airfield was chosen as the venue. The model aircraft fair was intended to take place as close as possible to actual air traffic. The organizers were thrilled that airfield manager Willi Hefel made the best hangar on the airfield available for the event. For families and children, the integrated playground on the grounds provided a welcome opportunity to pass the time excitingly while waiting for their parents. The well-run airfield restaurant (Airfood) also helped everyone stick it out with good food and drinks.

In front of the hangar, the airfield perimeter fence had been transformed into a VIP lounge. During a coffee break featuring croissants and a wide selection of homemade cakes, all participants and guests were able to enjoy watching the hustle and bustle at the airfield. Bücker Jungmeister, Pilatus Porter PC6, Cessna, and Piper aircraft in various configurations took off and landed. Skydivers repeatedly tried to “stay up” and were once again flown back to the jump-off position by the PC6.
The organizers would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone involved for their enthusiastic support. They are already looking forward to the next MBO, which will be held in the same format. ■
With aviation regards
The organizers, Erich
Baggenstos and
Mario Principe
