33rd Hahnenmoos Alpine Model Aircraft Camp

von Andreas Dauwalder

Shortly before 7 a.m., I walk into the workshop for the youth alpine gliding camp at the Hahnenmoos Pass; the last day of camp is just around the corner. The chargers hum quietly. Adhesive tape holds the glued-together parts in place—perhaps not quite straight, but thanks to the repair, the glider model is ready for action again for the final day!

Tools, glue, scraps of wood, and mixed in among them—perhaps not entirely appropriate—RC components, along with clothes tossed haphazardly about: All these items create a lively, creative chaos—simply life in the warehouse! Carefully placed on top of the piles of materials are the colorfully decorated balsa gliders—today is the glider competition!

In the quiet workshop, my thoughts drift back to the six days of camp week I’ve just experienced—all the things I’ve seen, albeit as an onlooker—but the images remain and are partly captured on this page of the MFS Magazine with evocative photos. And they showcase in many ways the value of this camp week in such a beautiful setting!

I’ve already mentioned several times that this camp can only take place thanks to a well-coordinated team of leaders—and that will also be true for 2025! How many youth camps across Switzerland can no longer take place because of a lack of competent leaders...?! All the more reason: a huge THANK YOU for this ongoing, invaluable work is absolutely essential!

In closing, it must be said: Our room is already reserved for 2026, and by next spring at the latest, boundless anticipation for our model flying week together at Hahnenmoos will once again take hold—and certainly not just for me...! Calendar week 30 is a fixture on the annual model flying calendar! Even among the camp participants, you hear the following remarks on Saturday morning as they say their goodbyes: “Will you be back in 2026?”, followed by a resounding: “Yes, of course!”

Are you interested in the camp? At www.alpines.ch, you’ll find the registration documents for the 2026 camp. Space is limited—there are already quite a few people interested...! The camp will take place from July 18 to 25, 2026.
