Rolf Zimmermann Has Died
September 1964 to January 2022
On January 28, 2022, Rolf Zimmermann passed away at home following a heart attack. He had been dealing with serious health issues for some time, but seemed to be on the mend. Rolf was a model aviator through and through. He skillfully flew the entire range of aircraft. He often towed and flew large gliders, and he handled helicopters just as adeptly as his impressive jets. That’s where he belonged—it was his passion. His expertise was vast, and Rolf was always happy to share it, whether as head of the SMV Safety Commission or within our region. He always had an open ear and helped wherever he could. Rolf was a welcome pilot featured on the program at many air shows. In earlier years, we often attended air shows together. He also frequently helped out at Suissetoy. His direct manner wasn’t always well-received everywhere, but that was just Rolf—the way we appreciated him. He will be missed, and we honor his memory.
