High-speed electric motor gliders at the MG Gäui
High speed, agility, and excellent gliding performance are the hallmarks of F5B gliders. Flying the 150-meter course as many times as possible in 200 seconds—while the motor may only be started outside the course on one side—requires the utmost concentration. The fastest pilots managed 50 runs. Immediately afterward (without a stopover), a 10-minute glide is performed using the motor as little as possible. All of this requires a great deal of experience and regular training. The precision landing is the icing on the cake. To ensure no one gets overconfident or forces their way across the course, energy consumption is checked via telemetry after landing. Anyone who has consumed more than 1,750 W*min must expect penalty points. One can only imagine how much expertise and care handling the technical equipment requires. The entire event—which, unfortunately, had a minimum number of participants—became a success story thanks to the beautiful MG Gäui airfield and the flawless support provided by the locals. Thank you very much.
