Grenchen Model Aircraft Day 2018

Under bright sunshine, numerous model airplanes took off from the Grenchen Regional Airport. In between, there were model flying breaks of varying lengths whenever the large “real” airplanes took off and landed. The organizing committee skillfully used the impromptu lunch break—during which no flights took place—to conduct interviews, in which some pilots were asked about their models and other topics. Questions from the spectators were also answered competently.

Grenchen Airport offers excellent infrastructure for such an event. This allowed the numerous spectators to marvel at even very large jets.

Moreover, Grenchen is an ideal venue where pilots from western and German-speaking Switzerland can meet. Not a trace of the Röschtigraben to be seen far and wide. The announcers’ performance was world-class. The expertise of Rolf Dürrenmatt and Peter Brotschi is hard to beat.

All too soon, it was 5:00 p.m., and the air show had to come to an end. Spectators and pilots alike headed home feeling satisfied. Stuck in traffic heading toward Härkingen, we had a chance to reflect on the day once more...
