SMV's Youth Development Program at the Air Show in Hausen am Albis
The organizers of the Hausen am Albis Air Show invited the SMV to set up a booth to present the association’s interests. On behalf of the SMV, the Youth Development Department presented its ideas and implementation plans at its own tented booth.
The Youth Development Department, led by Thomas Suter, is committed to recruiting and supporting model aviators of all ages. Therefore, an air show like the one in Hausen am Albis is an ideal opportunity to show many interested people how to get started in model aviation and to motivate experienced model aviators to pursue a potential career in the field. The SMV’s proficiency badges, for example, are a great incentive for beginners. Learn more at www.modellflug.ch
In addition to providing guidance, the Youth Development Department also organizes youth summer camps for building and flying models, introductory events, and advisory support for schools. This includes, in particular, theoretical information for teachers as well as recommendations for models suitable for building in schools. If needed, the Youth Development Department provides—

We are happy to provide information and support regarding youth development, including events in your region.
The air show enjoyed ideal weather conditions; attendance was correspondingly high. Many visitors took advantage of the opportunity to receive independent advice on getting started in model flying and the appropriate equipment. The advisors present at the SMV booth all possessed a high level of expertise and flying experience across various categories
categories, ensuring expert advice that was gladly received. Even experienced model aviators were able to pick up a tip or two.
At the SMV booth, interested visitors could participate in a contest with very attractive prizes. The challenge was to estimate as accurately as possible the takeoff weight of an F3 glider with an electric motor and an electric aerobatic aircraft. More than 600 participants of all ages in the
contest demonstrated the interest in the attractive prizes. The smallest estimated deviation—just 7 grams—was achieved by a female participant, who was delighted to receive first prize.
The Youth Development Department did an excellent job with its presence and presentation at the Hausen am Albis Air Show, delivering a very informative and compelling presentation that was highly appreciated by all participants and visitors. ■
